E3 Everything Horror

E3 is happening right now and with it comes loads of announcements and new information for new horror games. Plenty expected but a few big surprises! Following is a detailed list of pretty much anything that has happened at E3 involving horror titles. It will be updated as we go.

Friday the 13th - Gameplay

Friday the 13th The Game is a title I backed when it started on Kickstarter and I’ve kept a close eye on it ever since and at E3 we finally saw some gameplay footage. This is in early alpha so it’s certainly not finished or polished but it already looks great. The deaths are brutal and it looks like Friday the 13th fans really are getting what they want. The fact Pamela talks to you while you play as Jason is enough to buy it! Enjoy.

We Happy Few - Gameplay

We Happy Few is another game I’ve been watching for a while and I haven’t seen that much of it but at Microsoft’s E3 conference we got a surprising look at it. The footage is mostly gameplay and looks like the introduction to the whole game. It’s really pretty, it’s really uncomfortable, creepy and it’s set in a drug fuelled alternative 1960’s England so what’s not to love? Have a watch, you bunch of downers.

Update: Sam Abbott joined the Twitch stream of E3 on day 2 and confirmed that the footage IS the introduction to the game. He also gave us some information on the multiple choice of the game. You can sit there and look at newspapers as long as you want, to learn more about the world, you can even take your joy. And this time the gameplay didn’t turn into a trailer, the gameplay continued. We got a little look at the heads up display and even the combat. I’m assuming the combat isn’t finished since it doesn’t look very smooth.

State of Decay 2 - Trailer

Staying with Xbox, State of Decay 2 was announced. There’s only a trailer with a little idea of gameplay but it looks very community building based and maybe open world? Have a look.

Gears of War 4 - Demo

We got a nice chunk of Gears of War gameplay if you’re into that. It’s dark, bloody and it’s loud. It looks like a crazy ride into the best looking Gears game yet. As an extra to you Gears fans out there, they also announced a sexy Gear of War 4 controller AND General Raam as a playable character in Killer Instinct.

Dead Rising 4 - Trailer

Dead Rising 4 was announced with this very festive trailer. It looks insane and I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot of fun but you don't need me to tell you that, just watch this 9 minutes of bonkers gameplay.

Prey - Trailer

Going to Bethesda now, turns out Prey IS actually back! Not sure how horrific this game will be but there’s certainly a psychological element to it and it seems dark, creepy and fun.

Dishonoured 2 - Gameplay

If you count it as horror, a chunk of gameplay was shown for Dishonoured 2, which looks okay. There’s certainly some interesting new abilities there. Here’s the trailer.

For a Bethesda extra, Doom had a little update video and now a demo of Doom should be available for anyone.

Observer - Trailer

Going into some smaller titles, there was some very short and interesting footage for a new horror game called Observer from the creators of Layers of Fear and I really have no idea what to expect but I definitely want to see more!

Vampyr - Trailer

If you missed it, the next game from the people behind Life is Strange was shown and… it is strange. The trailer actually makes it look a lot better than the gameplay I saw, so here you go.

Death Stranding - Trailer

And now we go into Sony’s conference. Remember that dead Silent Hills game by Kojima Productions starring Norman Reedus? Well there was a nice surprise at Sony’s E3 conference involving Kojima himself and a reveal of a new game that seems to be built up on the dead Silent Hills game. How much (If any) is actually from Silent Hills we don’t know, since the trailer leaves us with a lot of questions but Guillermo Del Toro is no longer mentioned and it doesn’t look too Silent Hilly but Norman Reedus is there and damn am I excited to see more!

Days Gone - Trailer

We’ve seen a lot of zombie survival games through the years and Sony has announced a new one that seems to have a more realistic take on the zombie apocalypse and they all look like Gollum from The Lord of the Rings but it looks fun enough. Personally I’m not very interested in the title, it’s another horde game except this time the zombies seem super useless and you more or less play as Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy. Watch the trailer, which doesn’t have the zombies in it.

Resident EVII. Biohazard - Trailer

Yes, we got a nice reveal of the new Resident Evil game which no one thought was Resident Evil until the title popped up. So as we can see Resident Evil hasn’t actually returned to its original format but it’s definitely going back to more scares. This time we’re playing from a first person perspective and I don’t think we’re going to be that good at defending ourselves. Oh and how they intergraded VII into the title is great, extra points for style.

Exciting stuff.
